Summer Madness

Updated: Jun 12, 2020

As you will know we are always busy busy here at Hatton School of Performing Arts, but when it comes to Summer we take things to another level!

We will start all the way back in May with our Annual School show, which this year was called "Hooked on Musicals"

We had an amazing response from all who came to see the show, with numbers like Dear Evan Hansen & The Colour Purple moving people too tears.

Traction Rallies

Every summer we perform on the Graham Atkinson Steam Engines all around the country. This is something our dancers have done for years and gives them a great opportunity to perform to big crowds in varying situations.

The kids absolutely love going to traction rallies and it's a great taste of dancing professionally.

Magic Mike

Another of our long standing relationships is providing the 'Hey Presto Dancers' for legendary magician Magic Mike (not the male dancers on west end)

The Magic Mike shows are performed in Scarborough and Bridlington several times a week and the kids absolutely love performing in these shows and carrying on in the footsteps of dancers who are now performing professionally around the world.

Monday Showtime

We are coming to the end of our Summer season at the YMCA Scarborough. Every year Hatton Productions provides a Cabaret show on a Monday night. This summer we went back to their roots in ‘Monday Showtime’! In 1995 and 1996 the school, then known as Dance Warehouse, performed weekly throughout the summer season at the YMCA and we were delighted to be back in our Monday night slot for the third year!

Following the huge success of last years summer show, this years Monday Showtime featured excerpts from musicals such as ‘Smokey Joe’s Café’, ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’ and ‘The Colour Purple’; as well as pop music from Michael Buble, The Rembrandts and a tribute to Elton John featuring songs from the new feature film ‘Rocketman’.

Open Air Theatre

Every Monday during the Summer Season we also provided entertainment at Scarborough's open air theatre.

These shows run every year provided by the council and are free entertainment for locals and tourists visiting the town. The kids absolutely love performing at these shows and getting to meet and interact with other dance schools.

Congratulations!

congratulations are in order for our lovely Miss Naomi, or as we should now say Mrs Blades. Naomi has been teaching and performing with us for many years now, and this summer saw her tie the knot with the lovely Josh Blades.

We couldn't be happier for them both, although we have certainly missed Naomi this Summer as she has been trekking around Canada on her honeymoon.

Cabaret

This summer we have provided lots of cabaret performances for peoples parties and events. This is something we provide throughout the year and can be tailored especially to your event. We can provide anything from 20's theme, Moulin Rouge, Disney, you name it we will be able to provide song and dance to suit the occasion.

Stage School Success!

It has been another successful year for our students who have auditioned for stage schools. This year we have three students who will all be leaving us to take the next stage in their performing arts careers.

Cameron Davis is starting a three year course at Urdang Academy

Elisha Marshall is starting a three year course at Addict Dance Academy

George Deller is starting a three year course at Bird College of Dance, Music & Theatre Performance.

It is always sad to see pupils leave the school, but we wish them all the success in the world and their #hattonsfamily can't wait to see where their careers will take them next.

26 Years of Success!

In our 26 years of operating as a performing arts school we have had the pleasure of watching many pupils move onto stage schools around the country. Our success rate is down to the work ethic that we try to instill in our pupils, whether they want a career in performing arts or not, this work ethic will go on to help make them employable adults in which ever career they choose.

We are extremely proud of the feedback we hear from professionals in the industry who constantly feedback to us how are past pupils are progressing at colleges and in the performing arts industry.

Welcome to Mark Webb

We can't think of a better way to round off our Summer blog than to announce that leading industry choreographer and teacher Mark Webb has signed on to patron for Hatton School of Performing Arts. Our pupils were absolutely thrilled at the news and have already benefited from this new patronage with a full days masterclass with Mark as he choreographed a dance number for our upcoming school show 'Applause'

What Next?

We are currently working on our next show 'Applause' which will take place October 19th & 20th at the YMCA Scarborough. The show will star our 'Show Teams' class and is shaping up to be a non stop thriller of a show.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us through this Summer. We hope you continue your support with our upcoming productions, and if you, or anyone you know would like to join any of our classes then please contact us on 01723 501249 and we will be happy to help.
